...jeckgo, I think its allowed na yata? Not so sure, but there are rules on it...what I know is that if you are in an online account, you cannot do this, but a live broker can help you...that is if you happen to have a long-standing relationship with the broker....

...shorting is done when a trader gets to have a sell transaction first before the buy and often, this is done on a stock with a falling price or a stock which is about to fall like what happened in PWR before...just review the chart it had when PWR went above 5.0, this was shorted...and I know of some people who did the shorting, well actually many of us did because it was posted in a thread...

...sori if no visuals yet for this answer, will add na lang later as we are all still in a vacation mood pa Smile

never tried, kahit may offer na sa broker ko hehe kaka takot mag short eh hehe
the key to trading success is to focus on how much money is at risk, not how much money you can make.

trading is simple, but it's not easy. if you want to stay in the business, leave hope at the door, focus on specific setups, and stick to your stops.

long positions are done when you expect a price to go up.
short positions are done when you expect a price to go down.

current balance stock A = 0 shares
you buy 1 stock A at piso at opening because you expect stock a to go up. you sell 1 stock A at 10php at some point during the day. you pocket the profits.
this is a long position.
ending balance stock A = 0 shares

current balance stock A = 0 shares
next day, you sell stock A at 10php at opening because you expect a stock to go up. you buy back stock A at piso some point during the day/the next day. you pocket the profits. the process of "buying back" stock A is called a "cover".
this is a short position.
ending balance stock A = 0 shares

current balance stock A = 0 shares
you sell stock A at 10php at opening because you expect a stock to go up. stock A refuses to go down during the day an instead goes up to 20php. you are forced to buy back at 20php at closing. you cry.
this is a stupid position.
ending balance stock A = 0 shares

Big Grin

live brokers can do that because they can "borrow" the shares of somebody else from their "pool" of shares. obviously kung wala rin silang "pool" ng shares na yun, di rin nila magagawa yun.
buy high, sell higher!

"when it comes to trading, i'm just barely smart enough to realize that i'm a total idiot. i might be considered stupid, but on the intelligence scale, it puts me comfortably ahead of all the dumber people who thinks they're better than me."
